My Interpretation:
Tidus is a Japanese name that translates to "Sun". This makes sense because in the game Tidus makes quotes about the sun and how gentle it is. Not only that, but Yuna's name translates to "moon". My view on this is that Yuna and Tidus are equivalents. Such as the moon and the sun, they both are mutually united, much like the yin-yang concept. Tidus comes from a world where there is no Sin, yet Yuna has lived in Spira, where everything revolves around Sin. That's the basic differences between the two. However, Tidus and Yuna share similarities as well. They are both on a quest to defeat Sin and, one way or another has been taken away from them, by Sin. So, like Sun and Moon, they are different and alike at the same time. Sun and Moon, they both give off light, yet they are different as day and night.
